Vertify was set up in 1986 under the name ‘Proeftuin Zwaagdijk’ as a regional research location for flower bulbs and field vegetables. Since 1990, the government has gradually cut back on funding for applied research. Due to a drastic national restructuring of agricultural research, Vertify decided to continue as an independent private foundation as from 1 January 1997.
Vertify started under the name Proeftuin Zwaagdijk in 1986. The look of the company has changed radically over the years.
After a period of growth, the office was too small. In 1998 it was decided to add an upper floor to the office.
For further development it was decided in 2008 to build new greenhouses, classrooms, office, presentation area and storage.
Demokwekerij Westland was acquired in 2012 to increase the opportunities for innovation and growth in greenhouse horticulture. The company has a demonstration area for various parties that have a relationship with greenhouse horticulture. These parties present their products here. Together this provides a total overview of all the techniques required to set up a greenhouse. This can include heating, water, transport / logistics, light and climate control. Demokwekerij Westland has been located in the World Horti Center since 2017.
Demokwekerij Westland became part of Vertify in 2012.
In 2017 Demokwekerij Westland moved to the World Horti Center.
In 2021 Proeftuin Zwaagdijk continues its activities under the name Vertify. Reason for this change is the desire to grow further with a fresh and modern name with an international character. Vertify remains the testing ground for all your research questions.
