The Interpolis Tulip Prize 2021 was won by the single-flowered yellow-red tulip "Ready", a breeding product of growers association Remarkable. The prize was awarded during a digital event on the occasion of the Zwaagdijk Trade Exhibition.
"Ready" distinguishes itself according to the professional jury, consisting of Nico Hof, Sven Jong and Joris de Waard because of its robustness. It has a sturdy stem and good upright leaves. "Ready" shows color right from the bud, which is an attractive feature during the sales phase.
Floris Slob, breeder at the Test Center for Ornamental Crops of Hobaho by Dümmen Orange, does cross-breeding for Remarkable. “We knew that 'Ready' was a worthy candidate, but there were more beautiful things among the entries, so we're happy. Breeding tulips takes a lot of time. The Interpolis Tulip Prize is a beautiful crown on our work. It provides attention, making it easier for the tulip to find its way to the breeder.
“As an agricultural insurer, Interpolis aims for long-term relationships with customers,” says Interpolis sector manager Agro Melissa van de Kam-Jacobs. “Continuity is important, the craftsmanship and innovation in the flower bulb sector contribute to this. We are proud of these entrepreneurs, of the attention to quality and of the knowledge and passion with which they show that they are ready for the future. We like to make these qualities visible with the Interpolis Tulip Prize. ”
