Vertify carries out research on a large number of themes within the horticulture, such as new forms of assimilation lighting, fertilizers and adaptations to cultivation techniques.

IN vitro screening

Vertify has techniques for conducting in vitro screening. With in vitro screening, an indication of the efficacy of crop protection products against specific fungi can be obtained in a simple and fast way. For in vitro screening, the most common fungi are maintained at Vertify. Pathogens are regularly inoculated from in vitro plants to further expand the collection.

Lighting

Important issues in exposure tests include:

  • Can a good production be achieved in the winter by assimilation lighting?
  • What are the effects of the different light colors (spectra) on growth and development?
  • What are the advantages of LED lighting compared to the standard Son-t lamps?

Especially in the autumn and in the winter period, these lighting tests take place on crops such as tomatoes, peppers, strawberries and cucumbers.

Fertilization

Another important topic are the trials with new forms of fertilization. Among other things, the possibilities of organic fertilizers, compound fertilizers and fertilization in relation to water cultivation are examined here.

Growing systems

Growers are constantly optimizing their cultivation. Adjustments to cultivation techniques are important to optimize quality and production. Vertify is conducting trials in collaboration with growers to be able to realize this optimization. An example of this type of research is the Futagrow system, a cultivation system innovation that is based on year-round cultivation on (hoistable) gutters with a water film instead of a substrate such as rock wool.

LED-research

Seed breeding companies, suppliers and growers are increasingly asking for research into the influence of LED on seed germination and plant growth. Vertify has responded to this by developing a new research facility. Our LED cell is now operational in which different light recipes can be created. The recipes can contain red, white, far red and blue light. There can be varied in light intensity. All LED lamps in the cell are independently dimmable from 1 to 100%. Light values can be read in real time. The research facilities will be further expanded in the near future. If you would like to use the LED facilities or want to know more, please do not hesitate to contact us.
